Lab Specialist
About the Role
As a Laboratory Specialist at Memorial Health University Medical Center, you will perform specific departmental duties including specimen preparation, delivery, and accessioning. You will communicate with other hospital departments regarding correct specimen ordering and test corrections, liaise with doctors and nurses about results and specialty testing, and assist pathologists with consultation send-outs and navigating specialty testing menus. Additional responsibilities include handling special specimen requests, daily workload assistance, recordkeeping, inventory control, preventive maintenance, quality control, and clerical duties.
- Verify identification of each specimen upon receipt and assign accession numbers
- Enter demographics into the computer system and generate changes as necessary
- Adapt workflow processes to achieve high productivity and aid in turnaround time (TAT)
- Perform departmental assigned duties and coordinate patient care with pathologists and other physicians
- Assist the organization by performing other duties as requested or required
Requirements
- Associate Degree
- 1 year of experience (required)
- 3 years of experience or more (preferred)
