About the Role
The Laboratory Quality Manager oversees the Quality Management System (QMS) in the laboratory, developing and implementing quality control processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, conducting audits, managing documentation, compiling reports, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to uphold high standards in testing and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditations, regulatory standards, and information management policies by providing leadership and guidance.
- Provide guidance and consultation concerning laboratory quality processes.
- Ensure that quality policies, processes, and procedures are established, current, and adhered to by all laboratory staff.
- Identify and report quality issues and problems to management with recommendations for resolution, including any training needs.
- Oversee internal audit processes, external assessments, proficiency testing programs, document control systems, competency assessment, training, and other quality processes.
- Analyze data, develop reports, identify trends, monitor prevention and correction of quality deviations.
- Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting of point-of-care test results.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures; ensure accuracy and reliability of point-of-care test results.
- Ensure training and competencies are completed and up-to-date by all testing personnel.
- Establish processes and policies for effective and professional communication between laboratory staff and among other departments within the hospital.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and performance metrics.
- Recommend best practices to maintain and improve project outcomes and laboratory functions.
- Assist in purchasing of laboratory equipment and managing inventory of supplies.
- Participate in various hospital committees.
- Document minutes for all laboratory meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
- 4 years of laboratory experience preferred.
- National certification: MLS(ASCP) or equivalent required.
- Louisiana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist required.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common specific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Knowledge of lab quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- May be at risk for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and tuberculosis.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Requires mental competence and alertness, dexterity and accuracy of physical movements, clear and concise speaking abilities, accurate hearing, and visual acuity.
