About the role
The Lab Program Coordinator is responsible for operational and technical accuracy for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures in specific lab departments. This position does not work the bench. The Lab Program Coordinator is a career ladder position that will be a technical expertise to bench level staff, review procedure updates, evaluate work processes, and assist in meeting accreditation/compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintain operational quality, consistency of reporting, continuous monitoring of analytical systems and automation lines.
- Maintain organization of workload, complete quality control procedures, properly identify specimens, and determine proper equipment functionality.
- Demonstrate outstanding knowledge in multiple disciplines in each department as listed below.
- Identify, analyze, and solve problems as they arise.
- Ensure results are reported in the Laboratory Information System and keep nursing personnel informed to assist in and expedite patient care.
- Notify appropriate nursing personnel when a laboratory information system or instrument is out of service.
- Consider the age of the patient when performing testing and releasing results.
- Communicate with a diverse patient population and their family when performing special procedures.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed.
- Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.
- Ensure results are reported in the Laboratory Information System and keep nursing personnel informed to assist in and expedite patient care.
- Manage robust laboratory compliance program.
- Provide billing guidance.
- Conduct inspections of lab draw stations.
- Avoid non-compliance with established procedures/standard work, LIS registration.
- Participate in CAP, state and Joint Commission inspections.
- Manage laboratory proficiency testing program and tracks exceptions.
- Support lab site leaders to maintain relevant documentation for inspection readiness and audit.
Qualifications
- Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Medical Technology, or a closely related field according to current applicable state and federal regulations.
- Experience: Minimum three years of Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience is required. Five years of experience is preferred. Quality/project management/regulatory experience is preferred.
- Licenses: A current State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Technologist license as a General Supervisor is required within seven (7) months of hire.
- Certifications: National certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) preferred.
- Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
