Position Overview

The position serves as the point of care testing program manager, overseeing the accuracy and reliability of tests conducted by the POC testing staff. It involves developing and implementing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established standards, and maintaining adequate inventory.

Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements and monitors point of care testing program.
  • Reviews and monitors laboratory outcomes, develops and implements policies and procedures, and develops overall education program for POC testing staff.
  • Oversees the activities of the POC testing staff to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff to achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency, and to adhere to established policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Oversees and assures completion of proficiency and competency testing as required, and follows up with correction actions to address unacceptable results.
  • Discusses need for and schedules laboratory and nursing meetings to discuss issues related to all aspects of point of care testing performed on the nursing units.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of operating supplies in order for department to run smoothly.
  • Prepares timely and accurately a variety of reports and records as required.
  • Communicates with vendors as required.
  • Maintains accurate records, procedure manuals, quality assurance records, and quality control records as required.
  • Maintains documentation required by regulatory agencies.
  • Enforces and follows established CH and departmental policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Frequent physical demands include: Sitting, Standing, Walking, Carrying Objects, Pushing/Pulling, Twisting, Bending, Reaching Forward, Reaching Overhead, Wrist Position Deviation, Pinching/Fine Motor Activities.
  • Occasional physical demands include: Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Squat/Kneeling/Crawling.
  • Continuous physical demands include: Keyboard use/repetitive motion, Talking/Hearing.
