Lab Manager - Histology/Cytology

Job Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operational activities of the Histology and Cytology departments
• Effectively manage the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and have ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff
• Perform bench-level laboratory testing as needed
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner
• Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels
• Ensure laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements
• Aid in developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installing equipment/methods

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology; 5 years or more of experience as a Histotechnologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory; 5 years or more of supervisory experience managing several direct reports; Florida Histology Supervisor License
• Preferred Qualifications: ASCP Histology certification; 5 or more years of experience managing a team of supervisors, managers or other people leaders

Additional Job Standards

• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
• Ability to solve problems and provide solutions under minimal supervision
• Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
• Comfortable making decisions in a changing environment
• Able to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
