Lab Manager

Job Summary

The Museum Anthropological Archaeology is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Ancient Protein and Isotope Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Alicia Ventresca-Miller. The Ancient Protein Laboratory focuses on extracting proteins from archaeological samples like dental calculus, bone, enamel, and residues from ceramics and tools. The Isotope Laboratory specializes in analyzing archaeological materials such as enamel, bone, dentin, and plants.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation and safety of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and providing training and supervision to students and colleagues.
• Manage equipment maintenance, quality control, and oversee the scheduling of open lab hours.
• Supervise personnel, evaluate performance, and ensure adequate materials are available for protocols.
• Oversee inventory control processes and develop, design, and conduct research experiments.
• Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, assist with collagen extraction and ZooMS, and analyze data.
• Ensure the laboratory adheres to university guidelines and maintains compliance with environmental regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 4-5 years of experience in a related field such as Chemistry, Archaeology, or Biology.
• Previous experience in a wet laboratory.
• Experience in archaeological chemistry laboratories, including collagen extraction, ZooMS, and sample preparation.

Modes of Work

This position requires work in the laboratory and is not eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode. Positions with hybrid or mobile/remote work modes are at the discretion of the hiring department.

• The salary range for this position is $26,800 to $33,500 with a full-time salary range of $53,560 to $67,000.
