Lab Asst Phlebotomist DT

About the role

The Lab Assistant Phlebotomist at NCH is responsible for receiving and processing all incoming specimens, ensuring their integrity, and delivering them to appropriate areas. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in phlebotomy or clinical lab work.

Responsibilities

• Collects and processes blood samples for various tests
• Evaluates specimen integrity and communicates with medical staff about specimen rejection
• Answers phone calls and provides accurate information to medical staff and guests
• Communicates with patients and hospital staff to ensure proper specimen collection and handling
• Uses computer systems to manage orders, track samples, and resolve 'Unlisted Labs'
• Organizes and dispatches phlebotomy requests to minimize patient venipunctures
• Investigates incidents and follows up on incomplete orders
• Manages specimen transfers and prepares reports for healthcare providers
• Applies knowledge of culture media types and inoculation techniques to process specimens for culture

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience in phlebotomy or clinical lab work preferred
• Excellent customer service skills
• Intermediate computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows)
