About the role

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital seeks a Laboratory Assistant / Phlebotomist to perform non-technical functions under supervision. Key responsibilities include specimen collection, processing, and submission, as well as clerical duties.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in various specimen collection methods
• Processes specimens according to established procedures
• Communicates with patients and families about specimen collection
• Works with computer systems for job functions
• Handles administrative tasks such as faxing and pneumatic tube system operations
• Monitors and resolves outstanding specimen reports and pending specimen collections
• Collaborates with physicians on referral testing issues

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant experience
• Experience in registration, clerical duties, and specimen processing
• Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or EMT certification preferred

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to interact positively in a team environment
• Strong communication skills, especially in technical contexts
• Knowledgeable about specimen collection and testing requirements

Skills

• Proficiency in venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks
• Computer literacy, particularly in laboratory information systems
• Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
