Responsibilities
- Biological (e.g. blood, urine) specimen receipt, identification verification, processing, and storage.
- Performing a variety of clerical, pre-analytic processing, and other laboratory duties including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning.
- Working with various computer information systems on a daily basis.
This is a 4-month full-time temporary position to train on the job to gain the phlebotomy skills needed to apply for the Inpatient Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Technician position.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position; also, this position does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, and a background in science is preferred, but not required.
- 1-2 years of medical experience is preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations, and other office equipment is desired.
- Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
- Must be organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
- Requires the ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.

Foreign-trained lab personnel must provide a detailed equivalency High School evaluation to include a U.S. equivalent degree at the applicant's expense.
DLMP employees that have been in their current lab/position less than 2 years must attach early release approval from their supervisor. Non-DLMP internal applicants that have been in their current department/position for less than one year must attach early release approval from the supervisor.
Pay
$20.00 - $24.26 per hour
Schedule
- Full Time
- 80 hours per pay period
- 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, varying weekdays
- Every other weekend
