Job Summary

The Laboratory Department at St. Francis Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their dynamic team. The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting quality blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing clerical duties to ensure efficient department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and the community respectfully
  • Accurately collect and process specimens according to established procedures
  • Identify and match patients’ identities with service records for patient safety
  • Enter and process specimen data, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required
  • Perform departmental-related clerical tasks such as inventory checks, supply management, and answering phones
  • Resolve problems promptly and troubleshoot as necessary

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community respectfully
  • Collect all specimens according to established procedures from patients and ensure proper processing
  • Identify patients accurately and match their identity with the correct service for patient safety
  • Enter and process specimen data, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, and answering phones
  • Resolve problems promptly and troubleshoot as necessary

Education and Licensure/Certification

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Phlebotomist Certification preferred but not required

Experience

  • One-year phlebotomy experience preferred but not required
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
