About the Role

This is an entry-level position in the laboratory designed to train individuals on testing protocols and the importance of accurate data collection as it pertains to quality. You will gain basic knowledge of lab setups, sample handling, and quality control skills to identify and report issues on production lines.

Responsibilities

  • Pull all required samples at established time intervals to enable the laboratory to identify product issues during production.
  • Verify product meets required specifications on the line, including codes, packaging, and absence of leakers. Notify operators, coordinators, lab resources, and senior techs of any deviations.
  • Run and interpret results for tests such as:
    • Vacuum checks
    • Temperature
    • Appearance and weights
    • Code date verifications
    • Packaging and seal checks
    • pH or T.A.
    • Coffee testing
    • Shelf life verification
    • Pulling retains for customer complaints
    • Flavor and odor checks
    • Peroxide checks on Evergreen packaging
    • Oxonia tests on Serac for POAA levels
    • Spin tests
    • Pre-setting carts in incubators for microbiological testing
    • Calibrations and standards
  • Maintain daily cleanup and review of racking systems in incubators and coolers, including setup before production starts.
  • Keep the lab clean and organized by removing trash, consolidating supplies, wiping down counters and equipment, and sweeping/mopping.
  • Participate in team-oriented processes to drive improvements within the lab and plant.
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including dress code standards.
  • Support SQF (Safe Quality Food) requirements, including:
    • Maintaining food safety and quality in the work area.
    • Monitoring incoming goods and services.
    • Reporting food safety problems to authorized personnel.
    • Supporting programs such as Corrective and Preventative Action, Finished Product and Raw Material Release, Internal Audit, Customer Complaint, and Mock Recalls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Science training and/or dairy experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food standards and handling, HACCP, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing: Long periods (8+ hours).
  • Sitting: Occasionally for short periods.
  • Walking: Long periods.
  • Bending: Frequently.
  • Lifting: Light (25–40 lbs.) frequently.
  • Carrying: Light (50–60 lbs.) frequently.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Light to heavy (40–150 lbs.) with a cart.
  • Ability to pull Serac lines in 20-minute intervals and Paper lines in 30-minute intervals.

  • May be exposed to ingredients used in food manufacturing, including allergens.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $25.02 - $27.33 USD.
