About the role

The role involves coordinating clerical and nursing home functions, including scheduling, collecting Nursing and Group Homes, coordinating offsite collection sites, computer registration, order entry, printing, charting, mailing, faxing, and filing of reports. Accurate charges and billing information are ensured, along with employee competency testing, procedure manual reviews/updates, clerical staff training, ensuring timely submission of charts to the coder, and reviewing nursing home monthly bills for accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Performs waived testing in a physician office setting, including Influenza, Strep, and Urine HCG testing.
  • Performs moderately complex testing, such as CBC, Urine Microscopic, and KOH Prep.
  • Understands, performs, and documents maintenance and quality control as appropriate.
  • Collections blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients and places them in appropriate departments.
  • Prints Outstanding Orders reports and responds to specimens listed on the report.
  • Follows procedures for patient identification and specimen labeling.
  • Orders and receives specimens, places appropriate barcode labels, and distributes them to testing departments.
  • Adheres to infection control procedures and isolation precautions.
  • Performs clerical duties, including registration, checking charges, scanning, indexing, and printing.
  • Assists with courier routes as needed.
  • Maintains adequate stock, requests supplies as needed, and places stock in appropriate areas upon receipt.
  • Keeps work areas and collection trays clean and sanitary.
  • Responds to telephones appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Orients new staff to departmental procedures and environment.
  • Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff, coworkers, other departments, and physicians' offices/homes.

Requirements

Prefer high school diploma or equivalent (GED). 2 years of clerical experience after 1 to 2 months on-the-job training. Competency in laboratory procedures, as appropriate. Good general condition. Verbal and numerical abilities, form perception, finger dexterity, and dependability.

Skills

Knowledge of laboratory procedures, verbal communication skills, numerical calculation, handling paperwork and keyboards, and adherence to infection control and isolation precautions.
