About the role
The Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego is seeking a Lab Assistant II to support their ongoing research activities. This position will assist with basic cell culture, sample preparation, western blotting, and general lab maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic cell culture, sample preparation, and western blotting
- Maintain lab equipment and supplies
- Follow research protocols and instructions closely
- Update databases using MS Office programs
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and superiors
- Work independently and cooperatively
- Handle potentially harmful agents with care
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED with two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including relevant coursework
- Ability to follow basic research protocols and instructions
- Basic computer skills (MS Office)
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of laboratory safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of UC procedures
- Experience with preparing primary cultures and maintaining cell lines
- Experience with routine western blotting techniques
- General knowledge of sample preparation and quantification
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and equipment
- Experience with wet-lab techniques and equipment
Special Conditions
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends, if necessary
- Must be willing to work with hazardous materials
Pay, Benefits & Schedule
Annual Full Pay Range: $57,504 - $69,175
Hourly Equivalent: $27.54 - $33.13
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications.
Union TX Contract applies.
