About the role
Performs routine and limited non-routine functions in histopathology sample preparation to support microscopic evaluation by pathologists.
Responsibilities
- Prepare slides
- Receive and label tissue specimens
- Perform tissue processing and staining (manual and automated)
- Maintain equipment, prepare reagents, and handle paperwork related to accessioning and reporting
- Monitor inventory, stock supplies, and ensure a clean, safe work environment
- Assist technical staff with limited technical tasks as needed, adhering to safety policies
- Perform clerical duties, generate department statistics, and monitor pending lists
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of histopathology or laboratory experience
- Experience handling PHI and using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
- Preferred: 3 years of experience supporting pathologists
Skills & Knowledge
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and multitasking abilities
- Effective communication, interpersonal skills, and confidentiality
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and LIS; manual dexterity for lab instruments
Education & Physical Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college courses in science preferred
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift objects up to 50 pounds with assistance, and perform manual tasks
