About the role

The laboratory assistant position at Mayo Clinic involves biological specimen handling, clerical duties, and other laboratory tasks. This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, and a background in science.

Responsibilities

  • Biological specimen receipt, identification, verification, processing, and storage
  • Clerical duties including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning
  • Performing a variety of laboratory duties using various computer information systems

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Additional requirements include knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, a background in science, and 1-2 years of medical experience (preferred)
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations, and other office equipment is desired
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good human relations skills and effective communication abilities are essential
  • Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments
  • Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents are necessary

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $20.00 - $24.75 per hour. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Schedule

This position will start as 1:00pm - 9:30pm (or somewhere close to those hours), with an upcoming position change likely moving this into a M-F 2nd shift position working the same hours as noted. Weekend Schedule: See schedule details section.
