About the role

Our Lab Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of results by collecting high-quality samples. They are the primary liaison between the laboratory and its customers, including patients, coworkers, and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and/or capillary blood collection as ordered by provider
  • Use IT systems to register patients, schedule appointments, process orders, enter results, and communicate with providers and other departments
  • Process samples to prepare for laboratory testing
  • Perform waived patient testing and quality control
  • Perform clerical duties such as scanning, faxing, and filing
  • Participate in training of new staff and student externs
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal requirements for healthcare institutions and medical laboratories including, but not limited to, CLIA and WA DOH
  • Strictly adhere to all Snoqualmie Valley Hospital system procedures and policies as well as Laboratory-specific procedures and policies
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff
  • Maintain supply levels by restocking, taking inventory, and communicating needs to laboratory management
  • Work effectively as a team member within the department, and with other departments, to provide quality service through respectful communication, cooperation, and collaboration
  • Use various methods to communicate such as email, fax, instant messaging, EMR messages, and telephone
  • Recognize and correct problems associated with orders and samples before forwarding to technical staff

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy program through a post-secondary school or college accredited by a regional or national accrediting organization recognized by the US Department of Education
  • Current WA State Medical-Assistant/Phlebotomist certificate, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days with proof of application

  • Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection using sterile technique
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse patient group including infants, children, and adults
  • Ability to complete waived testing
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proper use of PPE
  • Ability to complete various clerical duties
  • Ability to work with blood, body fluids, and tissue samples

Work Environment

  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances including chemical disinfectants, and other conditions associated with a hospital environment

Physical Demands

  • Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds
  • Full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination
  • Standing for long periods
  • Stooping, bending, and reaching
  • Walking

Pay

$24.11 - $36.78/hr, with additional night and weekend differential potential.

Eligibility: Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week. Benefits extend to your legal spouse or domestic partner and dependent children until age 26. Waiting period: 1st of the month from the date of hire.
