Lab Assistant

About the role

The selected candidate will obtain specimens from patients using appropriate techniques and maintain the integrity of the specimens according to established procedures. This includes blood, urine, feces, nasal swabs, and microbiological specimens. The individual will also submit specimens to reference labs and maintain the reference lab system and files. They will provide care to patients of all age categories while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Obtain specimens from patients using appropriate techniques and maintain specimen integrity.
• Submit specimens to reference labs.
• Maintain reference lab system and files.
• Provide care to patients of all age categories while maintaining confidentiality.
• Help with CLIA waived testing and Moderate complexity testing after appropriate training and competency assessment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Computer skills and knowledge of Medical Terminology are desirable.

Qualifications

• On-the-job training and experience of up to 3-4 weeks is provided to become familiar with departmental policies, procedures, and equipment unique to the facility.
• Orientation is completed for each task prior to performing tests independently.
