General Summary of Duties
- Perform and monitor laboratory functions needed to guide care of patient with a hematology and cancer diagnosis.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of routine lab tests.
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of diagnostic codes and billing processes needed for laboratory testing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in specimen safe-handling.
- Process specimens for in-office testing.
- Prepare specimens for shipment to testing facilities/reference labs.
- Perform, monitor, and document quality control tasks.
- Document any corrective action as applicable.
- Demonstrate proficiency in laboratory information system (LIS) and electronic medical record (EMR).
- Communicate with multiple reference labs for the purpose of order transmission and problem resolution.
- Review lab orders and results for accuracy and timeliness.
Performance Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Medical assistant or phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Laboratory and oncology experience are preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Demands of Position
- This position requires sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting or moving materials up to 50lbs.
- This position includes occupational exposure to pathogens.
