Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrates professional telephone etiquette and greets patients and visitors politely.
• Processes pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
• Processes specimens for reference laboratories.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies; maintains cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas.
• Places specimens on laboratory instruments following established policies and procedures.
• With documented training, may perform instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control procedures, primary culture inoculations, slide staining, and subculturing from liquid media.
• Assists in Pathology with training and evaluation.
• Serves as a runner for interdepartmental deliveries, mail, fax, and phone duties.
• Performs other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.

Unlicensed laboratory personnel operate under CLIA and California Business and Professions Codes (BPC: 1212, 1269), requiring direct and constant supervision by a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) during analytical testing. Unlicensed personnel may not read, record, result, verify, or interpret tests; perform quantitative measurements or calculations; or calibrate instruments or review quality control results.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
• State certification as CPT I or CPT II if required by state law.
• Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire; maintenance of certification preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory test terminology and phlebotomy procedures for patients from newborns to geriatric.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $23.00 to $27.29 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
