About the role

A full-time Laboratory Assistant position is available in the lab of Dr. Andrew Gillis in the Bay Paul Center for Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution at the MBL. The lab assistant will assist with research on an NSF-funded project on the development of the lateral line system of cartilaginous fishes.

This is a one-year position with an expected start date of 1 September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Tissue preparation (dissection, fixation, and embedding)
  • Histology
  • Microscopy (light and fluorescence)
  • Animal husbandry

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and some college
  • Experience with basic wet lab techniques, including histology and microscopy
  • Experience in the lab with careful handling of animals

Physical Requirements

  • Minimal exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Occasional lifting of heavy objects (under 30 pounds)
