Lab Assistant
This position is for PRN, as needed.
About the Role
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting with the technical and clerical aspects of the laboratory department, such as managing collection, acceptance, receipt, and processing of all specimens into the laboratory department(s).
- Complete computerized registration of patient samples using the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Perform waived testing, as trained.
- Assist technical staff by organizing and preparing samples for testing, including centrifugation, preparation of smears for staining, and placing samples on analyzers for testing that do not require programming.
- Contact external facilities to report stat and critical results.
- Complete basic quality control steps (e.g., sterility testing, new lot qualification).
- May include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor, requiring the same licensure or completed training to satisfy the discipline of the student.
