Lab Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assists employees with work in progress.
• Reads and follows departmental SOPs.
• Performs temperature checks.
• Receives and stores supplies.
• Processes specimens for testing.
• Affirm specimen acceptance.
• Demonstrates good laboratory practice and performs cleaning and decontamination procedures.
• Tracks samples for proper storage.
• Aids the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor in equipment maintenance.
• Understands and adheres to all safety rules and regulations.
• Attends scheduled in-service training.
• Performs related work as required.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written procedures accurately.
• Basic computer skills.
• Efficient in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional, reliable, and team-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a laboratory, medical office, or healthcare setting.
• Experience handling biological specimens.
• Familiarity with laboratory safety and compliance practices.
• Experience with sample tracking or laboratory documentation.
• Familiarity with laboratory IT systems, Excel, and Word.

Physical Conditions

• Frequent sitting.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity.
• Sometimes stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs., averaging about 25 lbs.
• Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

Environmental Conditions

• Laboratory environment.
• Occasional exposure to harsh chemicals with strong odors.
• Personal protective equipment and OSHA, CLIA, and laboratory policies, procedures, and standards must be observed.
• Safety restrictions enforced.
