Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. The Sinnott-Armstrong Lab focuses on common human diseases and patient experience to pursue transformative advancements in healthcare through equitable artificial intelligence integration and innovative research methods. The lab aims to understand the map between genotype and phenotype at a population level, using Lyme disease, chronic illnesses, and precision medicine for transgender and intersectional communities as models. Research includes phenotype-genotype mapping, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), database analysis of patient records, and biochemical/molecular approaches to immune response.

This is a work-study opening for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Applicants must be eligible for off-campus work-study during the upcoming academic school year and submit Financial Aid documentation confirming eligibility prior to interview.

Responsibilities

  • Work on Liquid Handling Robotic Project, including robot construction and maintenance using cost-effective materials.
  • 3D print parts and models for the robot.
  • Build fluidics system for liquid distribution.
  • Utilize open-source materials and software to build the platform.
  • Record and maintain physical and online logs of project progress.
  • Clean and organize labware and consumables to maintain the lab space.
  • Prepare presentations and regular updates to share with the lab and administration.
  • Commit to a minimum schedule with flexibility for vacations and personal time; communicate availability clearly.

Training will be provided for all laboratory techniques and protocols.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent with an interest in the sciences.
  • Preferred: Currently enrolled in college.
  • Previous or current laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, clear communication, and dependability are essential.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort with learning new software systems.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is from $21.30 to $30.13, based on experience and qualifications.
