About the role

Maintain the inventory of clinical trials specimen kits and shippers. Package, ship, and deliver specimens, documents, and/or supplies to area clinics in a timely manner. Items being transported may be considered biohazards or pathogens. Perform non-technical procedures in a research laboratory and maintain laboratory facilities, equipment, and records. Courier packages to satellite sites and drop-off locations for transit to FedEx, UPS, and USPS.

Responsibilities

• Order, receive, track, and destroy specimen kits, shippers, and supplies as needed.
• Locate and pull supplies needed to complete the processing and shipping of patient specimens.
• Reconcile physical kit inventory and tracking database information.
• Follow procedures and work practices related to kit management.
• Support lab staff by delivering patient specimens from the clinics to the lab.
• Transport packaged specimens from the lab to the loading dock.
• Courier kits, shippers, supplies, and specimens to and from HCI main site and satellite sites, and drop-off locations for transit to FedEx, UPS, and USPS.
• Adhere to laboratory safety practices.
• Manage time and workload efficiently and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with all groups within the CTO and Central Labs.
• Able to work independently and demonstrate adequate problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

• Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
• Often: Infectious disease exposure, oils (air or skin exposure), hazards (proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).
• Seldom: Exposure to animals.

Physical Requirements

• Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
• Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. Lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead, lifting over 75 lbs.

Requirements

• Entry-level position where on-the-job training is provided.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate records.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• General knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and terminology, as well as the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment and handle specimens appropriately (preferred or equivalency: one year of education can substitute for two years of related work experience).
• A valid Utah Driver’s License and the ability to single-handedly lift and transport items as heavy as 75 lbs.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Immunizations are required according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Pay

$15.00 - $17.00 per hour
