About the role

As an Industrial Hygienist Consultant, you will engage directly with businesses across various industries to identify and solve complex occupational health challenges. Your work will help shape the future of occupational health in Washington State.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site consultations with employers to identify and solve complex occupational health challenges.
  • Sample and analyze air quality, noise levels, chemical, and other exposure risks using cutting-edge industrial hygiene methods.
  • Perform complex safety and health surveys and audits to identify, evaluate, and recommend controls for occupational health hazards, including chemical, biological, and physical hazards.
  • Craft practical, science-based solutions that employers can act on.
  • Mentor and guide other professionals sharing your expertise to strengthen the DOSH team.
  • Partner with employers and employees alike to create safer, smarter workplaces.
  • Drive to conduct on-site assessments and implement safety measures.

Qualifications

  • To qualify as OSHPRO2-Industrial Hygiene (In-training):
    • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university involving major study in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or closely related field AND Two years of paid occupational/industrial safety related professional experience.
    • One year as an Occupational Safety and Health Professional 1 in DOSH.
    • A Master’s degree from an accredited university in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene or similar field AND one year of paid occupational/industrial safety related professional experience.
    • Six years of technician, paraprofessional or higher, paid occupational/industrial safety related experience in government, military, or public health work environment.
  • To qualify as OSHPRO3-Industrial Hygiene (Goal Class):
    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in industrial hygiene, or related field AND four years of paid occupational/industrial safety related professional experience.
    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in industrial hygiene, or related field AND two years as an Occupational Safety and Health Professional 2 in DOSH.
    • A Master's Degree from an accredited university in industrial hygiene, or similar field AND two years of professional experience.
    • Four years of full-time journey level paid industrial hygiene experience in one or more of the following industries: Government, military, public health, or related industrial hygiene field.

Desired

  • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) are encouraged to apply. Bilingual positions include a 5% salary increase for dual language responsibilities.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Skilled in sampling and direct measuring techniques for chemical, biological, and physical occupational health hazards.
  • Possession of a thorough understanding of both WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration) and OSHA (federal government's Occupational Safety and Health Administration) rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills when working with employers, unions, and legal teams.
  • Experience conducting training and delivering presentations to large groups.
  • Experience leading complex consultations or inspections.
