Position Summary

The Knowledge & Innovation Attorney – Litigation will support the Litigation department with its knowledge management, technology, and innovation needs. The role includes developing, collecting, and maintaining core practice materials, as well as “know-how” (e.g., trainings, precedents, and guidance); sharing materials and know-how across the department; identifying practice inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement through the expanded use of KM and technology; and supporting substantive training initiatives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and manage training materials, guidance, and other knowledge resources relevant to the practice and professional best practices;
  • Identify, maintain, and curate collections of precedent documents;
  • Conduct matter debriefs with attorneys to support precedent collection and analysis;
  • Collaborate with practice leadership and Professional Development to identify practice-related training needs and develop appropriate training resources;
  • Guide attorneys in identifying and utilizing internal and external training resources;
  • Develop and deliver training to attorneys and staff on KM tools, resources, and best practices;
  • Develop expertise and stay informed on evolving technologies and KM systems relevant to the practice, including AI-driven applications, and collaborate with the KM team on projects within the firm;
  • Partner with the KM team to support and scale pilot initiatives, including gathering feedback, tracking outcomes, and iterating on solutions;
  • Assist with the evaluation of generative AI capabilities, including developing, testing, and refining generative AI prompts tailored to specific legal tasks, and ensuring alignment with the practice’s needs and firm best practices;
  • Serve as a subject matter resource on AI, providing guidance and support on the effective, ethical, and secure use of AI tools within the practice;
  • Solicit feedback from attorneys on the use of KM systems and technology in their practices, and leverage attorney engagement to assess and adopt technology into their work;
  • Document best practices and lessons learned to facilitate the evaluation and adoption of KM systems and technologies, including AI systems;
  • Assess gaps in the practice’s KM systems and knowledge-sharing processes, and develop and implement plans to address those gaps;
  • Develop workflows that leverage the practice’s resources and technologies to promote efficiency in common matter types.

  • Availability during standard office hours, with the ability to respond promptly to emails outside of standard office hours and on weekends, as needed;
  • Familiarity with Excel, with the ability to create and deliver PowerPoint presentations.

Education And/or Experience

  • JD degree is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a practicing litigator (5–7 years of practice) and an aptitude for technology, particularly in organizing large information sets and making them accessible to litigators, as well as an understanding of the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (“AI”) in the profession.
  • Experience collaborating with partners in a large law firm setting is expected.

Compensation

The expected base salary ranges from $250,000 - $350,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, anticipated assignment, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Davis Polk offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
