About the role
The Kitchen Support Floater, In-School is a dynamic role and integral part of our kitchen teams, helping to serve and deliver healthy, made-from-scratch meals to hundreds of children every day. This position provides hands-on support across multiple Red Rabbit school kitchens throughout the five boroughs of New York City, traveling between locations based on daily staffing and operational needs. The ideal candidate has experience working in a fast-paced kitchen, is reliable, flexible, and has a “can-do” attitude.
Responsibilities
- Travel to assigned school kitchens throughout the five boroughs of New York City to provide coverage and support based on staffing and operational needs.
- Work collaboratively with different teams and assist with receiving, stocking, setup, breakdown, and other tasks needed for a successful meal service.
- Assist with washing, cutting, portioning, assembling, garnishing, and packaging food according to Red Rabbit standards.
- Set up service areas and present and distribute meals with dignity to students while following portioning, meal-count, and school-timing requirements.
- Help ensure the kitchen is always exceeding DOH standards by washing dishes and equipment, cleaning and sanitizing workstations and service areas, removing waste, and following proper food handling, storage, labeling, and sanitation procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2+ years professional culinary experience in a fast-paced role in the service industry (e.g., restaurants), high-volume kitchen production (e.g., commissary kitchen), or in a similar cafeteria role (e.g., schools/hospitals).
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
- Familiarity with using and maintaining industrial kitchen equipment.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working at different school locations.
- A “can-do” attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.
- Ability to function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast-moving environment.
- Ability to follow instructions, recipes, portioning guidelines, and food-safety procedures.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between assigned school locations are required.
- State Food Handler’s Certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire; reimbursement is available.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Passion for improving nutrition and health in schools.
- Ability to read and write in English. Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

Pay
$19-$20 per hour.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, approximately 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; hours may vary by assignment.
