Kitchen Manager (On-Call)

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church, seeks a non-exempt individual to provide meals for senior citizens. The mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination.

About the role

This position involves cooking meals tailored to senior diets, obtaining a food handler's permit, managing kitchen cleanliness, and supervising volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Maricopa County health department standards for food storage, preparation, and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Develop weekly meal plans for senior citizens, ensuring variety and balanced nutrition.
  • Manage kitchen food pantry, rotate stock, and keep it clean and organized.
  • Secure food supplies through local stores, limiting trips to twice a month.
  • Ensure the security of food, equipment, and inventory in the kitchen area.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for seniors, including decorations and proper signage.
  • Record senior arrivals and meal donations, and coordinate special events.
  • Prepare meals for children’s troop programs and Sunday meals after church service.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and upkeep of commercial kitchens.
  • Execute public fund-raising meals as directed by the corps officer.

Requirements

  • Able to lift 10 to 50 pounds.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean record.
  • Pass The Salvation Army Driver’s Test Certification.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and volunteers.
  • Pass a criminal background check.

Qualifications

  • Able to cook meals for senior diets, including low sodium and low fat options.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in mass feeding operations (100 or more meals).
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean record.
  • Ability to pass the Salvation Army Driver’s Test Certification.
  • Pass a criminal background check.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations.
  • Experience in mass feeding operations.
