About the role

The Kitchen Manager at Copper Mesa Elementary is responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Handles employee issues with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Follows district Human Resources policies.
  • Manages performance through critical conversations with staff.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and delegates responsibilities to food service staff.
  • Solves problems as they arise with critical thinking.
  • Responds to parent/staff/student complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Ensures all staff recognize reimbursable meals.
  • Completes USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training annually.
  • Maintains accurate payroll and manages proper staffing.
  • Trains and develops kitchen staff, revising training materials to enhance performance.
  • Oversees sanitation and cleaning of kitchen facilities, adhering to safe practices.
  • Monitors health inspections and site reviews.
  • Plays a key role in creating positive community relationships.
  • Manages the breakfast program, if applicable.
  • Ensures food costs and inventory are managed to meet business requirements.
  • Places all orders by deadlines and maintains accurate inventory.
  • Manages up to 4 kitchen assistants and ensures cross-training.
  • Oversees safety and HACCP practices, monitoring and training kitchen personnel.
  • Delivers safety and HACCP training to all kitchen personnel.
  • Manages and trains up to 4 kitchen assistants.
  • Maintains food inventory and production reports to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures compliance with all school food service regulatory agencies.
  • Pursues upcoming regulatory changes and provides sustainable solutions.
  • Acts as a liaison between the kitchen and other Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, and parents.
  • Works with Manager and Central office to ensure coverage of absences and turnover.

Requirements

Frequent standing, reaching, lifting (including occasional overhead lifting), bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling items weighing 40 lbs or less. Standing or walking 75% of the work day. Occasional climbing and balancing using step stool. Repetitive motions including lifting, keypad entry, typing, chopping, filling and sealing packaging. Fast repeated movements of fingers, hands and wrists. Use both hands to grasp, grip, move or operate objects or equipment.

Qualifications

Required: ServSafe Manager Certification within 6 months of hire. High School or Equivalent.
