Kitchen Hood Suppression Technician
About the role
Responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of commercial kitchen hood fire suppression systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Works independently and as part of a service team to support customer safety, regulatory compliance, and company service commitments.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, service, and maintain kitchen hood fire suppression systems in accordance with NFPA 17A, manufacturer requirements, and local fire codes.
- Perform system installations, repairs, and upgrades as needed.
- Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings to customers and internal teams.
- Complete service documentation, inspection reports, and deficiency notices accurately and timely.
- Coordinate with customers, fire marshals, and internal scheduling teams to ensure successful service delivery.
- Maintain service vehicles, tools, and inventory in accordance with company standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations or after-hours service as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- 2-5 years’ experience servicing kitchen hood suppression systems or related fire protection systems preferred.
- Pre-engineered Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems Permit and Portable Fire Extinguisher Permit preferred.
- Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Ansul, Pyro-Chem, Kidde) preferred.
- Knowledge of NFPA 17A and applicable local codes preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to use mobile service software, smartphones, and basic computer applications and email.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Ability to work at heights and in occupied buildings.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Field-based role at commercial, industrial, and multi-family properties.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and electrical environments.
- On-call rotation and occasional overtime may be required.
