Position Objective

The Cook is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Supervisors in preparing high quality and nutritious meals in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications

  • Ministerial Support position
  • High School Grad or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of food service experience

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Aid Supervisors, teammates and Lead Cooks in preparing meals by specified mealtime deadlines
  • Follow direction and recipe books to ensure consistent flavor and quality
  • Prepare amounts indicated on production sheets to prevent waste and ensure MH food flavor consistency
  • Follow all safe food handling practices
  • Fill out shift cleaning and temperature logs
  • Present the food to the guests in an eye-appealing manner
  • Be updated on BEOS and food menus
  • Replenish buffet lines and catering vans, and catering boxes as needed
  • Add additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications/Licenses: High School Grad or equivalent
  • Work Experience: Minimum one year of food service experience
  • Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Ability to communicate in English, Knowledge of basic math for recipe conversion, Ability to use basic kitchen utensils, Ability to create positive work relationships and work in teams, Self-directed with ability to work without constant supervision, Ability to remain calm in a high-energy kitchen setting

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and move around the majority of the workday
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments, both indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to use a variety of kitchen tools, equipment and utensils, including sharp objects
  • Ability to see, hear and speak

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a California food handlers card or be ServSafe certified
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
