Kitchen Assistant – Mason City, IA

About the role

At North Iowa Community Action Organization, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children and families through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Our goal is to promote the well-being, growth, and development of young children, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated Cook to join our team!

Key Responsibilities

• Aid the cook with preparation and serving nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with Head Start guidelines and nutrition standards.
• Aid the cook with ensuring all meals are served in a safe and hygienic environment, following all food safety regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.
• Aid with food-related activities and teach children about healthy food choices when appropriate.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in food preparation or working as a cook, preferably in a child care, school, or early childhood setting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
• Ability to work with children and create a positive, welcoming mealtime experience.
• Must pass background checks as required by the program.
