Kitchen Advocate/Cook

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is seeking a Cook for CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence in Columbus, Ohio. CHOICES has been the sole resource for victims seeking shelter in Franklin County for more than four decades, providing a Temporary Emergency Shelter, 24-Hour Crisis Hotline, DV Counseling, Legal Advocacy, Peer Support Groups, and more.

Responsibilities

• Ensure meals are appetizing and nutritionally balanced.
• Coordinate and assist volunteer efforts, using a trauma-informed approach with resident volunteers.
• Comply with sanitation procedures of state and facility.
• Accept, properly log, and store donations including marking date and item.
• Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved.
• Support, cooperate with, and implement specific procedures and programs for:
  • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security.
  • Report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair, and maintenance needs.
• Support and participate in common teamwork: Cooperate and work together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
• Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform, and dress codes including personal hygiene.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Previous food service experience required.
• Experience working with low-income, diverse, or homeless populations preferred.

Schedule

Full Time | 11am - 7pm | Including every other weekend
