Kindergarten Teacher

About the Role

The PSOE Classroom Teacher reports to the team lead/elite teacher and is responsible for direct instruction through curriculum implementation, lesson planning, data disaggregation, and classroom management. This role ensures compliance with individual student Education Plans, Section 504 Plans, and other educational best practices while maintaining operational knowledge of state and federal education laws, behavioral management, and parent relations.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct instruction in whole-class, small group, and individual settings.
• Utilizes data-driven instruction and PSOE educational frameworks to deliver standards-driven instruction.
• Completes assessments, grading, planning, and conferences with students, staff, and families within appropriate timelines.
• Collaborates with team leads, Elite Teachers, Special Education Director, school counselors, and outside agencies to support students with exceptional needs.
• Ensures appropriate classroom implementation of Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and 504 plans.
• Completes additional reporting as requested by the Special Education Director or counselor.
• Develops and maintains regular family communication and community partnerships.
• Completes reports and follow-up documentation as required by administration.
• Maintains updated and documented cumulative folders for all current students.
• Contributes to a strong school education team by serving on committees and participating in local operations.
• Acts as a professional advisor to the team lead/elite teacher on classroom activities.
• Abides by all PSOE frameworks as approved by the CEO and outlined in the staff handbook.
• Maintains consistent and supportive communication for the classroom.
• Assumes delegated roles for various school functions to manage team workload efficiently.
• Utilizes effective systems to troubleshoot problems, track progress, and evaluate workflow components.
• Contributes to the organization’s mission and reflects school priorities in program planning and management.
• Assists in planning, implementing, executing, and evaluating special projects.
• Establishes a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in compliance with legislation such as FERPA, FAPE, Section 504, and Special Education regulations.

Requirements

• Valid Indiana State Teaching License or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Prior successful full-time education experience in a similar setting is preferred.
• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data disaggregation.
• Strong organizational management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve strategic objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a persuasive and passionate approach.

• Annual training and/or professional development is required.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in technology.
• Prior experience in charter schools.
• Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities related to the organization’s mission.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to operate computers and telephones.
• Ability to see and read computer screens and printed materials, with or without vision aids.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
• Ability to speak clearly in audible tones in classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
• Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.
• Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.

Work Environment

• Duties are primarily performed in a school/classroom environment but may include field trips.
• Moderate noise levels are typical.
• Tasks may require working in various locations within the school campus.
• Standard workweek with additional hours as needed for committees, fundraisers, public meetings, and events.
