About the role

Kids in Tech prepares students from under-resourced schools for the future by increasing access to high-quality STEM education. Through hands-on learning experiences, students build skills in technology, engineering, coding, computational thinking, and digital literacy while developing confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

The SPARK (STEM Pathways through AmeriCorps Resources for Kids) AmeriCorps Program provides direct service to elementary and middle school students through two complementary service components: school-day academic support and after-school STEM enrichment. Service takes place in partnership with schools and community organizations across Boston, Somerville, and Lowell, Massachusetts.

This is a 1,200-hour, full-time AmeriCorps service opportunity. Members serve approximately 40 hours per week from October 5, 2026 through June 16, 2027. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, STEM, youth development, and community service.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to elementary and middle school students.
• Reinforce teacher-directed instruction during school-day academic support.
• Facilitate engaging, project-based STEM learning experiences in coding, robotics, engineering, computational thinking, and digital literacy.
• Prepare instructional materials and technology for STEM activities.
• Support Family STEM Nights and other community outreach events.
• Participate in AmeriCorps orientation, required trainings, professional development, and National Days of Service.
• Complete approved program documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Age 17 or older.
• Ability to serve approximately 40 hours per week from October 5, 2026 through June 16, 2027.
• Passion for education, STEM, youth development, and community service.
