Kettle Crane Operator
Millennium Galvanizing is a proud member of the American Galvanizing Association. We operate with a lead-free kettle using special High-Grade Zinc supported by the most technologically advanced equipment in our industry. We also perform painting, metalizing, and paint over bare blasted steel, as well as paint over galvanized steel for sensitive installation areas requiring an aesthetically pleasing coating.
About the role
The Kettle Crane Operator I operates the overhead bridge crane (Demag 5 ton / 10 ton) in a safe and effective manner to ensure high-quality finished products. This position involves operating the crane once the steel has been dipped in zinc, lowering it into a water tank to complete the galvanizing process, and scraping/wiping excess zinc drips for a neat finish.

Responsibilities
- Operates overhead bridge crane (Demag 5/10 ton) safely and effectively: lifts and moves heavy structural steel, steel poles, and other products in various directions.
- Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
- Monitors steel products in process tanks and zinc baths.
- Inspects hooks, chains, and uses gauges to check thickness of crane setup.
- Manipulates crane controls to regulate speed and direction using pedals, levers, dials, and switches.
- Performs paddling functions to enhance the quality of galvanized products.
- Cleans and maintains cranes and hoisting mechanisms.
- Inspects cranes for defective parts and notifies Supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
- Inspects and reports materials that are rust-covered, damaged, bent, missing welds, or improperly vented.
- Wears required personal protective equipment and follows safety regulations.
- Maintains a safe and productive working environment.
- Shows ability to train individuals in Kettle Crane Operator I and II positions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Advanced capabilities in operating overhead crane equipment.
- One year of experience operating overhead cranes in a galvanizing facility or equivalent outside experience preferred.
- Holds an excellent safety record.
- Strong work ethic; goes beyond in all aspects of the job.

- Regular, reliable attendance is required.
Working Conditions
- May be required to work overtime as needed.
- Lifting Requirements: Up to 50 pounds by hand; heavier objects require crane, forklift, or other devices.
- Work Postures: Bending, crouching, driving, hearing, kneeling, reaching (out, above shoulder, below shoulder), seeing, sitting, standing, twisting, walking.
- Environmental Requirements: Exposure to dust/smoke, chemicals, hot/cold temperatures, noise, concrete surfaces, vibration, arc flash; works inside/outside, with others, alone, and with moving machinery.
- Dexterity Requirements: Eye/hand coordination, foot pedals, fingers (picking, pinching), handling (holding, grasping), repetitive wrist motion (flexion, rotation).
