About the role

Kennel Technicians are responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals housed at the Erath County Humane Society. This hands-on role ensures a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all shelter animals.

Responsibilities

• Feed, water, and monitor animals according to established schedules and dietary needs.
• Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
• Assist with animal intake, including health checks, vaccinations, and basic grooming.
• Observe and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns to the shelter manager or veterinarian.
• Exercise and socialize animals to promote physical and mental well-being.
• Assist with adoptions by preparing animals for meet-and-greets and providing basic information to potential adopters.
• Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding, cleaning, and medical treatments.
• Operate and maintain shelter equipment, such as washers, dryers, and cleaning tools.
• Assist with laundry, dishwashing, and other general shelter maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working with animals of various sizes, temperaments, and breeds.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Reliable transportation and a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Basic knowledge of animal behavior and care is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong work ethic, compassion, and a commitment to animal welfare.
