About the role
Kennel Technicians are responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals housed at the Erath County Humane Society. This hands-on role ensures a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all shelter animals.
Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and monitor animals according to established schedules and dietary needs.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Assist with animal intake, including health checks, vaccinations, and basic grooming.
- Observe and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns to the shelter manager or veterinarian.
- Exercise and socialize animals to promote physical and mental well-being.
- Assist with adoptions by preparing animals for meet-and-greets and providing basic information to potential adopters.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding, cleaning, and medical treatments.
- Operate and maintain shelter equipment, such as washers, dryers, and cleaning tools.
- Assist with laundry, dishwashing, and other general shelter maintenance tasks.
Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working with animals of various sizes, temperaments, and breeds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Reliable transportation and a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior and care is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong work ethic, compassion, and a commitment to animal welfare.
