About the role
This position involves caring for animals at Alamo Dog and Cat Hospital, including grooming, boarding, and providing basic needs. It also encompasses duties typically handled by a kennel assistant.
Responsibilities
- Aid technicians in various service functions.
- Implement and maintain a routine priority system for animal care.
- Ensure smooth operation of the reception area and hospital.
- Report any repairs or maintenance issues to the office manager.
- Enforce a maintenance schedule for hospital equipment.
- Walk hospitalized and boarded dogs daily.
- Bathe, groom, and provide TLC to hospitalized and boarded patients.
- Provide care for visiting pets.
- Report any signs of illness, disease, or unusual activity.
- Apply knowledge of normal food and liquid requirements.
- Administer medications and prepare samples for laboratory examination.
- Ensure proper numbering and identification of cages and patients.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, cages, runs, and stalls.
- Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital.
- Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
- Launder and dry towels and blankets.
- Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up trash and stool material.
- Empty trash.
- Groom animals according to owner instructions.
- Bathe and dry animals as needed.
- Perform pedicures as required.
- Record feeding schedules, patient appearances, and behaviors.
- Show technical knowledge of products and medications.
- Explain and educate clients on product purchase/use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and veterinary terminology.
- Ability to gain animal confidence and handle them safely.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to lift and move animals, perform heavy cleaning tasks, and work in various environments.
Skills
- Technical knowledge of grooming practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
- Tact and diplomacy in handling difficult situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
