Functional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the product development team as a film process engineer.
    • This will include planning, executing, and analyzing various trials on two Polyimide film casting processes.
  • Contribute to the execution and improvement of the site’s safety and Process Safety Management systems (PSM element responsibilities).
  • Understand the polyimide formulation, slurry dispersions, thermal casting, chemical casting, die flow rheology, organic solvent drying, film web handling, and high temperature oven tentering.
  • Collaborate with the research scientist for new formulation scale-up.
  • Implement programs to improve quality and product performance.
  • Needs to be capable of solving problems or addressing immediate issues for the product development team that will contribute to functionality of the manufacturing process.
  • Network with site engineering technical resources throughout Circleville to use the best available technologies to support production.
  • Provide on-call support for researchers or small-scale production film processing.
  • Provide support to the KSW process to improve higher production yields, improve film quality, and support casting operations.

Experience

  • Absolutely required: Minimum BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in web handling and film process technology in a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Environment.
  • Experience in process/product development.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in MS Office.
  • Green Six Sigma methodology.

Preferred Certifications/Training

  • Management of Change (MOC-S/T) major and minor.
  • Capex/Cost project execution.
  • PSSR Process Start up Safety Reviews.
  • PSM Process Technology (PT) - Managing Process Hazards.
  • Mechanical Integrity MI/Quality Assurance (QA) Knowledge of Instrumentation/Software.
  • Basic understanding of Laboratory Analytical equipment to support film property targets.
  • Polymer pumps, tanks, and drives configuration.
  • Batch mixer processes - Large scale (~50-100 gallon) Batch Reaction Vessels.
  • Continuous finishing processes experience.
  • Microscopy defect identification, layer thickness, and filler dispersion analysis.
  • Particle size analysis (PSA) – basic operations and data interpretation.
  • Karl Fischer - Water content measurement.
  • Instron/MTS Equipment.
  • Tensile Stress/Strain/Percent Elongation.
  • Initiation Tear Strength (Graves Tears).
  • Adhesion Strength (German Wheel).
  • Percent Solids – PAA, filler loading content, etc.
