About the role
This Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) – Generalist role involves performing a wide range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines to support high-quality patient care. You will operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensure accurate and timely test results, and follow all safety and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in disciplines such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and other clinical laboratory areas to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analyzers according to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Perform and document quality control checks, ensuring that all test systems meet regulatory and laboratory standards.
- Accurately analyze, interpret, and report test results in a timely manner while maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to clarify test orders, discuss results, and support clinical decision-making.
- Document all work accurately in laboratory information systems and maintain organized records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in training programs, continuing education, and competency assessments to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and compliance protocols, including proper handling and disposal of biological specimens and hazardous materials.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety procedures and regulatory standards, including state and federal regulations and accreditation requirements.
- Identify, document, and report any safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or irregularities to appropriate leadership.
- Participate in compliance and safety training sessions and apply learned practices in daily work.
- Support blood banking activities if trained and assigned, particularly if experience in blood banking is present.
Requirements
- Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license with Generalist designation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a closely related field.
- Professional experience working as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and analyzers.
- Proficiency in performing laboratory tests in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and other core clinical laboratory disciplines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests, documenting results, and following procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Educational background in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or related biological sciences is beneficial.
- Experience in a large hospital system or complex clinical laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with unionized work settings and related policies.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development through training and continuing education.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tests and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Comfort using laboratory information systems and electronic medical record systems.
Qualifications
- Experience in blood banking is preferred but not required.
- Commitment to following safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance protocols.
Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with healthcare professionals and accurate documentation.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required by laboratory operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
