About the Role

The K9 Manager position was developed to establish local K9 training and guidance and to advise the K9 Director on current statuses of local K9 teams. The K9 Manager serves as a point of contact in the field to provide current and updated information related to K9 training, ensuring Site K9 Trainers maintain proficiency in training K9 teams. Approved at the regional level, the K9 Manager is authorized to mentor, train, and evaluate certified TSA CSSP-K9 teams in operational settings. The role involves collaborating with the Regional K9 Director and Area Manager to maintain high proficiency levels among K9 teams and advise on all K9 matters.

K9 Managers provide guidance and assistance to the Regional K9 Director and Area Manager regarding local K9 team proficiency and effectiveness, communicating any deficiencies found at local sites. They ensure Site K9 Trainers complete the following tasks:

  • Preparation for re-certifications
  • Quarterly covert internal audits
  • Explosive inventories monthly
  • Video audits/review of K9 Teams monthly
  • Records for preventative maintenance, ensuring immunizations are current and within compliance
  • Monthly review of CETA and training schedules

K9 Managers also provide training guidance and recommendations to Site K9 Trainers to correct identified K9 performance deficiencies, interpret K9 capabilities regarding items allowed or not allowed for screening according to the CCSP K9 SP, and ensure compliance with all GK9PG and TSA policies and directives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a K9 Subject Matter Expert
  • Mentor, train, and monitor handler and K9 proficiency
  • Conduct K9 medical and behavioral assessments
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of K9 capabilities within CCSP K9 SP guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with GK9PG and TSA policies and directives
  • Communicate deficiencies and provide solutions to the Regional K9 Director and Area Manager
  • Work outside normal business hours, including weekends, as needed

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Employee Possessor license through ATF

Pay

$63,336 - $67,496
