K9 Handler

Position Summary

The Handler will be responsible for screening cargo in compliance with TSA rules and regulations. The Handler will be required to complete a 4‑8 week minimum team training course and certification prior to mobilization to the assigned location.

Responsibilities

• Participate in CCSP‑related training to search cargo and identify threats
• Conduct authorized representative duties related to X‑Ray, physical search, and trace detection as needed
• Perform handler duties while commanding a trained working dog
• Maintain training records for the canine team
• Care for and maintain the assigned canine, ensuring the employee’s residence is indoor, climate‑controlled, and meets inspection requirements
• Maintain all job‑related certifications and required security clearances
• Operate a company vehicle during on‑site training
• Work in varied conditions, from a busy training environment to field work, with frequent interruptions
• Perform outdoor work in inclement weather (heat, cold, humidity) and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration
• Work hours dictated by the customer’s schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule may vary
• Travel as required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship (must have held citizenship for a minimum of three years prior to application)
• One to two years documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment
• Ability to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment
• Ability to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within four to six weeks of employment
• Ability to obtain a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within four to six weeks of employment
• Adequate transportation with climate‑controlled vehicle to transport the assigned canine and crate to/from the work location
• Ability to pass the applicable contract testing and certifications for the program within four to six weeks of employment and maintain those certifications
• Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record for the last three years; license must be compliant with REAL ID standards or be accompanied by a valid U.S. passport
• Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion
• Problem‑solving skills with an analytical thought process
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
• Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lb, stand for long periods in all weather conditions, and perform intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, kneeling, and constant use of hands and fingers
