Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan instruction, including providing written lesson plans and preparation aligned with instructional program objectives.
  • Establish positive learning expectations and evaluate pupils' progress while maintaining accurate records of achievements.
  • Implement contemporary instructional methods, utilizing available teaching materials and participating in new teaching technique development.
  • Apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
  • Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct in classrooms, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms consistent with school discipline policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
  • Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
  • Ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and demonstrate understanding and respect for students.
  • Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, or ancillary personnel following school procedures.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
  • Participate in in-service and professional staff meetings, utilizing provided information and materials.
  • May coordinate and attend class field trips and participate in extra-curricular or after-school activities.
  • Utilize community resources appropriately.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework for the appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of a valid teaching license from the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.

Skills

  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary teaching principles, practices, and classroom/behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated instructional program.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Ability to understand physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
  • Skill in applying contemporary teaching principles and practices.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sound and professional judgment.

Physical Requirements

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
  • Ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, and handle/finger objects occasionally.
  • Constant talking and hearing.
  • Frequent use of near visual acuity and occasional use of far visual acuity.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.

Primary location: South Side - 1010 East 72nd Street (Paul Revere Elementary).
