About the role

The K-6 Elementary Coordinator position will provide leadership in coordinating the development of the K-6 curriculum in literacy, mathematics, science and social studies; planning and implementing effective professional learning programs; identifying and communicating research-based, effective instructional and assessment strategies; planning, monitoring, and evaluating assessment results; and selecting and planning for the purchase of print and digital textbooks, paper and online instructional resources, and other content-area materials.

Responsibilities

  • Create and contribute to a welcoming and positive department climate and culture
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the elementary curriculum
  • Design curriculum development activities and professional learning programs based on best practices and theories of adult learning, group dynamics, and the strategic change process
  • Develop and execute the rollout of new curriculum, including implementation training, school visits to monitor instruction, and data collection and analysis
  • Develop and maintain expertise in effective inquiry-based instructional practices and content integration
  • Work with the Academic Assessments Coordinator to develop and evaluate student assessments and utilize the district data warehouse system
  • Inventories and orders consumable teacher resources annually
  • Develops and facilitates professional development opportunities for teachers and principals, while also participating in ongoing professional development
  • Lead Content Area Leaders (CALs) and facilitate their professional development and implementation of district leadership activities
  • Lead literacy coaches and instructional coaches to provide job-embedded professional development in literacy and mathematics
  • Facilitate district-level committees related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning
  • Assists in the development of, and supports the implementation of, the district improvement plan and initiatives
  • Collaborates with members of the Academic Services Department, as well as school and district administrators and directors, to plan and coordinate program development activities and initiatives
  • Assists in the evaluation of teaching staff as requested
  • Maintains and manages assigned Title IIA budget allocations
  • Performs other coordination responsibilities and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) preferred; administrator's certificate required or the ability to obtain one
  • At least five (5) years of teaching and/or administrative experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with teacher groups, along with a strong commitment to improving learning for all students
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders, including parents
  • Training in, and experience with, research-based, effective engagement and instructional strategies in mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), science, and social studies for kindergarten through sixth grade
  • Ability to provide professional development to administrators and staff on the elementary curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Prominent ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
