K-2 ELA Tutor

About the role

SmartStart Education seeks a small group English Language Arts (ELA) tutor to work with small groups of elementary school students (Kindergarten‑2nd) who are struggling with fundamental ELA skills. The tutor will provide push‑in or pull‑out services at an elementary school in Bronx, NY, 10460, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, taking daily attendance and monitoring progress using a personal device.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups (1‑4 students) of K‑2 ELA learners.
• Provide push‑in or pull‑out tutoring services in the classroom.
• Take daily attendance and monitor student progress using a mobile device.
• Adapt to both classroom and pull‑out settings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (any field).
• At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a school or educational setting.
• Mastery of elementary school ELA concepts and skills.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by urban students, including racial, socio‑economic, and cultural disparities.
• Passion and commitment to fostering student success.
• Exemplary punctuality and reliable attendance.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Ability to commute to the Bronx, NY location.
• Ability to navigate a school environment (hallways, classrooms, stairways).

Pay

$28.16 – $31.29 per hour.

Schedule

• Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
• 8:00 am EST – 2:20 pm EST.
• Position runs from October 14, 2026 through March 22, 2027.
