About the role

The Health and Human Services Aide is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating departmental moves within the Agency, as well as coordinating and assisting in setting up special events. Other duties include miscellaneous manual tasks, minor building maintenance, and scheduling and maintaining County-owned vehicles assigned to the Agency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate departmental moves, conferring with managers and departmental staff; physically move heavy equipment, workstations, personal computers, and boxes as needed.
  • Coordinate with Management Information Services staff on the moving of computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Coordinate with Communications staff on telephone equipment changes and additional service/equipment.
  • Relocate and setup ergonomic workstations.
  • Requisition and order equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Receive, verify, and deliver equipment and supplies.
  • Meet with existing and potential vendors to determine specifications on certain equipment orders.
  • Act as liaison with Public Works regarding ongoing and routine maintenance items.
  • Develop and maintain the sign-out system for use of County vehicles assigned to the Agency.
  • Monitor usage of County vehicles.
  • Schedule maintenance of County vehicles assigned to the Agency.
  • Act as liaison with rental car agency.
  • Provide coordination and assistance in setting up special events.
  • Operate a personal computer in the performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Experience: Six months of experience in carpentry or maintenance work.
  • Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to ensure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Basic carpentry practices used in the installation and set-up of ergonomic workstations; safe work practices to be followed in the moving of heavy equipment and personal computers; basic tools used in building maintenance.
  • Skills: Ability to lift and move items of moderate to heavy weight using appropriate body mechanics; use a variety of hand and power tools to facilitate take-down and set-up of ergonomic workstations; follow oral and written instructions; carry out assigned tasks to meet specific deadlines; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical Standards

Certain designated County positions require a candidate to pass a physical examination prior to appointment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of this examination.

Fingerprinting

All employees hired into allocated positions or extra help positions will be fingerprinted.

Selection Process

For positions in the Department of Corrections and the Probation Department, the selection process will include an oral board interview, psychological assessment, background investigation, and a pre-employment physical exam.
