Susan Wayne Center of Excellence (SWCE) and the River Run Academy offer intensive residential, educational, medical, and clinical services for adolescent boys and girls who are mild to moderately cognitively impaired with concurrent behavioral, mental health, and medical issues. Located in rural Thompson, Connecticut, our state-of-the-art campus provides warm, home-like facilities in a pastoral setting.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the team as Juvenile Resource Staff, working with young adults who have experienced significant emotional challenges. You will be trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to effectively support youth in crisis, including following protocols for physical holds.

  • Maintain a safe environment by conducting regular walk-throughs, engaging consistently with the youth, and monitoring the physical surroundings.
  • Provide physical interventions and verbal de-escalations to create the safest therapeutic environment for the youth we serve.
  • Support students in developing and role-model effective coping strategies to create a safe and therapeutic community.
  • Help students discover what makes them feel competent and valued by working with them to develop life skills.
  • Support students in developing a sense of self and provide them the skills to be successful in their next steps.
  • Transport students as required.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Experience in security work or related field preferred.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license (background and driving record checks will be performed).
  • Available to work evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts as required.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $19.00 to $25.00 per hour. The listed range reflects what we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, licensure, certifications, and qualifications. Due to the nature of our work, overtime may be mandated.
