About the role
The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) seeks compassionate, committed, and resilient individuals to serve as Juvenile Justice Specialists at levels 1, 2, or 3 depending on qualifications and experience. These frontline professionals supervise youth in secure care facilities, promote rehabilitation, and ensure a safe and structured environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model and mentor, promoting positive decision-making and accountability
- Collaborate with counselors, educators, and medical staff to support youth rehabilitation
- Implement behavior management strategies and enforce facility rules
- Conduct searches, inspections, and security checks
- Document incidents, behaviors, and progress in case records
- Supervise and monitor youth in secure care settings to ensure safety and compliance
- Facilitate daily routines including meals, recreation, education, and programming
- Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR one year of experience in any field.
- Necessary Special Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Disqualifications: Conviction of a felony, indictment on a felony charge, engagement in sexual abuse, or failure to comply with PREA requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience in a field related to youth development or criminal justice preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of juvenile justice systems and best practices
Skills
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Proficiency in computer software and databases
- Knowledge of child development and psychology
Benefits
Compensation varies based on experience level: Juvenile Justice Specialist 1 ($1,400 biweekly), Juvenile Justice Specialist 2 ($1,504 biweekly), Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 ($1,608.80 biweekly).
Pay

Juvenile Justice Specialist 3: $1,608.80 biweekly
