About the role
Battelle is seeking an aspiring Junior Vulnerability Researchers to join our teams in Columbus, OH or Chantilly, VA. This role is ideal for someone passionate about vulnerability research and excited to work with a team of like-minded professionals.
Responsibilities
- Research and debug vulnerabilities on embedded devices
- Work with a team of experienced vulnerability researchers
- Develop and refine vulnerability research tools
- Collaborate on advanced exploitation techniques and exploit protection strategies
- Emulate embedded platforms for live debugging
- Use fuzzing tools and perform concolic analysis
- Apply knowledge of network protocols and AI/ML
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience with disassemblers (Ghidra, IDA Pro, BinaryNinja)
- Experience with assembly languages (x86, x64, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, etc.)
- Experience with debuggers (WinDbg, OllyDbg, gdb)
- Knowledge of operating systems (Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, MacOS, VxWorks, QNX, RTOSs, or other custom operating systems)
- Understanding of advanced exploitation techniques and exploit protection methods
- Ability to code in C
- Understanding of network protocols
Qualifications
- Passionate about vulnerability research
- Experience with AI/ML
- Experience with microcontrollers
- Experience emulating embedded platforms for live debugging
- Experience using fuzzing tools such as AFL or Peach
- Experience with symbolic analysis
- Active DoD Secret security clearance

Pay
Annual salary compensation range: $100,000 - 115,000 (Ohio) and $115,600 - $147,700 (Virginia) per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package.
