Junior Transportation Engineer – TEP TER

About the role

The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City’s streets. TPM includes the Traffic Engineering & Planning (TEP) unit, which conducts, reviews, and approves traffic engineering analysis and methodologies related to traffic operations, safety, and transportation planning.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to traffic/transportation operational and safety-related studies and projects including curb cut reviews, site development and site access reviews, and street direction conversion projects.
• Develop recommended measures to address transportation safety and operations issues.
• Organize and prepare written reports and graphic materials for presentations.
• Participate in community board meetings and provide technical assistance to agency staff.
• Collaborate with other agency representatives on department studies and projects.
• Attend meetings with community boards, elected officials, and staff from other agencies.
• Develop meeting materials (i.e., PowerPoint), prepare minutes, and perform other related tasks.
• Occasionally conduct field work.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
• Or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering principles, traffic impact studies, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), MUTCD, AASHTO, and CEQR Technical Manual.
• Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
• Familiarity with roadway access management principles and practices.
• Familiarity with the city’s curb cut review processes and procedures.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
